Shanxi prioritizes education funding for rural and underserved areas
In a bid to promote equitable and high-quality development in compulsory education, Shanxi province is strengthening efforts to allocate educational subsidies, with a focus on rural, revolutionary, remote, and previously impoverished areas.
The urban and rural compulsory education subsidy fund, established by both central and provincial governments, aims to support the development of compulsory education across Shanxi. Currently, the funding is directed towards ensuring the financial security of urban and rural education, implementing special teaching positions in rural schools, and improving nutrition for students in rural areas.
Local financial and educational departments at the county and district level are tasked with optimizing the allocation and use of these educational funds. They must consider the operational realities of schools of varying sizes, giving preference to township boarding schools, small rural schools, teaching points, and under-resourced schools.
For schools with fewer students, it is crucial to coordinate upper-level transfer payments and local resources to meet basic operational needs such as heating, water, and electricity. Additionally, schools are required to maintain strict financial management to ensure the safe, regulated, and effective use of these subsidies.
Schools are encouraged to allocate public funds based on their unique circumstances, ensuring that basic expenditures for daily educational activities are covered while also setting aside funds for activities that support the overall development of students.
